Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Building Advisory Council.

110.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the National Building Advisory Council is still in existence; and if so, if the result of their investigations has been made known or if any recommendations or proposals for organising the building industry have emerged.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the affirmative.

The council's report on its first survey of the building industry has not been published. There was a poor response from the building and other interests involved in the survey. Recommendations have been made by the council regarding planning of public building activity and these have been brought to the notice of the Departments concerned.

Has the Minister any idea when they may publish something?

I have got the report of the survey but they had not what one might call——

Sufficient material.

——anything like the expected co-operation from the various people, such as architects, surveyors, builders and others concerned, and it was not really as successful, therefore, as one would have wished. I do not think there would be any value in publishing it.

It is a pity the Minister for Health cannot make a comment on this.
