Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Potato Starch Plant.

112.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what is the present position and likely future prospects regarding employment and production at the potato starch plant at Manorcunningham, County Donegal.

In common with potato starch factories elsewhere, the potato starch factory at Labbadish, Manorcunningham, County Donegal operates on a seasonal basis, the length of the production campaign each year being governed by the availability of potatoes for processing. I understand that, on the basis of the latest reports of the potato supply position in the area, the factory at Labbadish will probably be opened in late January or early February 1966 and the potato processing campaign will be a comparatively short one of about the same duration, or somewhat shorter than the 1965 campaign, which lasted for seven weeks.

Question No. 113 postponed.
