Vol. 218 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abolition of Ground Rents.

64.

asked the Minister for Justice when it is proposed to introduce legislation for the abolition of ground rents.

The Landlord and Tenant Bill, 1965, was introduced by way of long and short titles in Dáil Éireann on 14th July, 1965. I hope to circulate the text of the Bill to Deputies during the present session.

The Bill will give effect generally to the recommendations of the Ground Rents Commission and will give lessees a right to purchase the freehold.

Is it anticipated that the Bill will become law during this session?

I do not know whether that could be anticipated but I assume that the Minister for Justice will be anxious to get on with it as quickly as he can.
