asked the Minister for Local Government if it is intended to increase the pensions of retired manual workers of local authorities following the ninth round wages agreement; and, if not, if he will arrange for such pensions to be increased in accordance with successive wage rounds, having regard to the fact that such wage increases have the effect of devaluing these pensions which are based on a fixed proportion of preretirement wages.

6.
Local authorities have been authorised in a circular letter which issued from my Department on 7th October, 1965, to grant an increase in pension, with effect from 1st August, 1965, to all local authority pensioners including manual workers who retired before the ninth round of salaries and wage increases. As regards the second part of the question, local authority pensions are adjusted in line with periodic increases in other public service pensions under regulations made by the Minister for Finance.
