Vol. 218 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old IRA Pensions and Allowances.

41.

asked the Minister for Defence how many IRA medal holders (1916-21) have got no military pension, special allowance or disability allowance.

As at 30th September, 1965, 63,833 medals—1916 and Service (1917-21) Medals—have been issued, 48,465 of these to persons who were not granted military service pensions. Details are not readily available which would enable me to say how many of those to whom medals were issued also received a special allowance or a disability pension. Many of them are now dead, although again I cannot say how many. Of 8,282 special allowance holders on 1st August, 1965, when the last examination was carried out, 1,068 also had military service pensions and/or disability pensions.
