Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Goods on British Market.

43.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any change is foreshadowed in the definition of Irish origin as certified to the British authorities for goods manufactured or made up here and accepted by them as valid evidence for free entry of the goods into Britain.

The rules of origin for Irish goods entering the United Kingdom is one of the matters on which discussions are proceeding in the current negotiations concerning a possible Free Trade Area Agreement and in this connection, the views of Irish industry are well-known to the Government.

That is not an answer to my question, which asks if there is any change in the position in relation to certificates of Irish origin for goods manufactured here, made up here. It is widely canvassed that the British Government are insisting on a change.

That is what the negotiations are about. We are negotiating to have a situation brought about which will be satisfactory to us.

And the Minister does not propose to tell us whether any change is foreshadowed?

The negotiations are still going on.
