The differential has been at the rate of five shillings since August, 1948, but the actual rate of wages paid to agricultural workers on my Department's farms in the Dublin area has of course increased, from 70/- a week in 1948 to 185/- a week at present or by 164 per cent.
I am informed that the estimated amount required at mid-August in each year since 1958 to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as 5/- in 1948 is:
