Vol. 218 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Drainage Schemes.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance when work will commence on the drainage of the Groody river near Limerick.

A survey of the Groody catchment area has been completed and design of a scheme is in progress. At this stage I cannot give a date for commencement of work.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance when work will commence on the Mulcaire drainage scheme.

In the reply to the Deputy's question of 3rd November, 1964, it was tentatively suggested that works could commence in 1970 or 1971. It is not possible at this stage to be any more definite.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance the date of commencement and the approximate date of completion of work on the drainage of the River Maigue.

As indicated to the Deputy in reply to his question of the 3rd November, 1964, a firm date for commencement of works cannot be given until the preparation of a drainage scheme for the Maigue catchment is completed and until the various requirements of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945 have been complied with. Present indications are that it is unlikely that a start can be made before 1968. Works would take about seven years to complete.

The work which is in progress on the embankments along the outfall of the Maigue below Adare will be, it is expected, completed in 1967.
