Vol. 218 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rhodesian Declaration of Independence.

9.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether the Government have made any representations to Rhodesia with reference to that country's unilateral declaration of independence; if so, the nature thereof; and what stand will be taken by the Irish delegates to the United Nations Organisation in the matter.

The Government have not made representations to the authorities in Southern Rhodesia.

As regards the final part of the question, the Irish delegation to the Twentieth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations voted for two Resolutions adopted on 12th October and 11th November, 1965, respectively, both of which condemned a unilateral declaration of independence by the Southern Rhodesian authorities.

The question of Southern Rhodesia is at present under consideration by the United Nations Security Council, of which Ireland is not a member.
