asked the Minister for Finance the number of applications for schemes under (a) minor employment schemes and (b) rural improvement schemes for each of the years ended 31st March 1956, 1960 and 1965.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report.

NOTE: The figures for Minor Employment Schemes relate only to the counties in which such schemes are carried out viz: Cavan, Clare, Cork (West), Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Limerick, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo. They include applications for Bog Development Schemes in these counties, as both Schemes are interconnected and are not recorded separately.
