Vol. 219 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Bacon Factory.

23.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if there are any plans for a bacon factory for Cork; if so, to what stage planning has progressed; and if he will consider Bandon as a suitable centre for such a factory.

I received an inquiry early this year whether a licence would be granted for a pig producers' co-operative bacon factory in the West Cork area and I indicated that the existing legislation entitles such a co-operative to a licence on fulfilling certain conditions. I have not been informed whether the project is proceeding. The centre at which the factory would be located is a matter for the co-operative itself in the first instance.
