Vol. 219 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities.

45.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what proposals, if any, there are to provide public telephone facilities at Caime, Enniscorthy, County Wexford, in view of the fact that the sub-post office there has recently been closed.

It is not proposed to provide public telephone facilities at the place in question.

What about the existing facilities for people in the area?

There is one coin box in the immediate vicinity and sub-post offices not very far away.

How far?

About three miles on either side.

Only a gallop down the road.

Nowadays, few people are ever stuck if they want to make a telephone call because there are so many subscribers. There is one coin box nearby and the number of calls made from it——

Would not warrant the installation——

——amount to four a day.

46.

asked the Minister when a 24 hour service will be provided at Togher telephone exchange, County Louth, where considerable inconvenience is experienced by subscribers because of the present very inadequate service.

It is not intended to extend the hours of service at Togher, County Louth, exchange for the present.
