asked the Minister for Health (a) the total number of voluntary hospitals in Dublin city, (b) the total annual grants paid to these hospitals, and (c) the total number of (i) public and (ii) private beds available in these hospitals.

There are no annual grants, as such, paid to voluntary hospitals. Payments are made towards the deficits of such hospitals as disclosed in their annual revenue accounts. In so far as the hospitals receiving such payments are concerned the answer to the question is as follows:

(a) Twenty-six;

(b) £1,686,000, in respect of the year 1963, which is the latest year for which all the final accounts are available;

(c) 4,235 public beds and 650 private and semi-private beds.
