Vol. 219 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maximum Speed Limit.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of reports that a speed of 70 miles per hour is considered very dangerous, he will consider the imposition of a maximum speed limit of 60 miles per hour throughout the country.

Consideration is being given to the desirability of introducing an overall speed limit but there is doubt as to whether it is possible under existing law to apply such a limit to all mechanically propelled vehicles. It is hoped to deal with this matter in proposed legislation to amend the Road Traffic Act, 1961, which is at present under consideration.
