Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Water Supply.

31.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement explaining the delay in providing a group water supply in the Templeport area of County Cavan; and if he is aware that the local contribution amounting to over £800 was subscribed and lodged in the bank 18 months ago.

The delay in providing a group water supply in the Templeport area of County Cavan is due mainly to the difficulty experienced by the promoters in obtaining a suitable source of supply. The final design of the scheme was submitted to my Department by the consulting engineer last week and is being examined. I am aware that the cash contributions have been collected in this case.

(Cavan): Could the Minister give us any indication when it may be approved and proceeded with?

I do not know what the position is about proceeding with it, nor indeed can I say when it will be approved. I received it only this week.

(Cavan): Is the Minister aware that the consulting engineer had great difficulty in obtaining the necessary map from his Department?

We do not deal in maps.

(Cavan): The Minister did in this case.

Whatever the difficulties are and without apportioning blame to anyone, all I can say is that the final design of the scheme has come to my Department only during the week.

(Cavan): Might I ask the Minister to do everything he can to speed it up?

I shall be doing that anyway.
