Vol. 219 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Walkinstown (Dublin) Letter-Box.

65.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider the erection of a letter-box at or near Walkinstown Convent, Dublin.

There are three letter-boxes within a radius of 500 yards of the convent the nearest of which is only 300 yards away. The provision of an additional letter-box would not, therefore, be warranted.

Does the Minister not agree that this question has been discussed with him on a few occasions and it has been made fully clear to him there is a need for a letter-box close to this convent and that the nuns in question would not have asked for it unless there was a need? In the circumstances, will he, as he promised a few months ago, consider the installation of a letter-box?

I examined this sympathetically and discussed it with the Deputy on a number of occasions. The close proximity of the existing letter-boxes would not justify changing one of them to a point nearer to the convent gate. There was a question about the capacity of one of the boxes being inadequate but on examination, it did not appear to be filled to capacity.

Give them a new Irishmade letter box and create a revolution.
