Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swords County Council Houses.

85.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is yet in a position to state when sanction will be given to proceed with the building of county council houses in Swords, County Dublin.

As I indicated when this matter was raised on the adjournment on 4th ultimo, the loan application by Dublin County Council for the provision of houses at various centres was received in my Department on 16th September and was for an unusually large amount, £543,000. In addition, a loan application for £500,000 for house purchase loans was received on the same day. The normal period for processing a loan is from two to four months. In this case because of the size of the loan applied for the period could reasonably be expected to be longer. However, I am endeavouring to have the portion of the loan relating to Swords cleared as soon as possible but I am not yet in a position to say when sanction will be given.

In view of the urgency of the situation in Swords, can the Minister say whether it will be in a month's time, two months' time or three months' time? In how many months' time will it be?

I have said it will be within one, two or three months' time.

It certainly will not be longer than three months?

It will not, no.
