asked the Minister for Local Government how many driving tests have been carried out to date under the Road Traffic Act, 1961; and the number of persons who failed to pass their first test.

The number of driving tests, under the Road Traffic Act, 1961, carried out to date is 17,040. Particulars of the number of cases included in this figure where the applicant was being tested for the first time and failed are not available and could only be extracted with considerable trouble and expense. The total number of failures in the tests carried out is 7,942.
