Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reorganisation of Creameries.

115.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he intends to consult with the trade unions on the employment implication arising from the reported reorganisation of creameries throughout the country.

As part of the annual series of reviews of progress under the Second Programme for Economic Expansion, a meeting with representatives of the dairying industry, including trade union representatives, is being convened by my Department this month. Among the matters to be discussed will be the employment prospects in the industry under the Second Programme. As to the more detailed question of employment implications under the scheme of creamery reorganisation at present in preparation, I have no doubt that the industry will recognise the need for consultation with trade unions at an appropriate stage.
