Vol. 220 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkenny Housing Schemes.

47.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position in regard to the proposal of the National Building Agency to provide a scheme of houses at Dublin Road, Kilkenny; and when it is expected that work on the scheme will commence.

The site for this scheme was surveyed and a lay-out prepared by the National Building Agency, Ltd. I am not yet in a position to say when work will be commenced.

48.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position regarding proposals of Kilkenny County Council for the erection of a scheme of houses at (a) O'Loughan Road and (b) Graiguena-managh.

Proposals for the acceptance of tenders for schemes of 18 houses at O'Loughlan Road, Kilkenny and 12 houses at Graiguena-managh were received from Kilkenny County Council on 20th December. These proposals are under consideration in my Department.

Could the Minister say when he will be in a position to sanction these proposals?

I am afraid I could not say at the moment.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reasons for the delay in sanctioning proposals of Kilkenny County Council for the erection of a scheme of houses at Newpark, Kilkenny.

The council's application for a loan to finance this scheme is under consideration.

Could the Minister say how long that matter has been under consideration?

I suppose since we got it. This is one in which the contractor pulled out of the tender already agreed to. It was reviewed by the local council and became the subject of a proposal to do the work by direct labour. It is this proposal, for whatever the sum is, that is before the Department.

How long is that before the Department?

The contract I speak of was last October. I could not say when the proposal to do it by direct labour was formulated but it was certainly after October.
