Vol. 220 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - General Election Days.

4.

asked the Taoiseach the estimated loss of gross national product which would take place if the day of a general election were to be made a public holiday or a half day's holiday.

It is not possible to give the information requested by the Deputy since, in some sectors of the economy, production is continued on a public holiday, while in other sectors production is restricted to varying degrees. It is not possible, therefore, to make any estimate of the loss of gross national product which would occur if the day of a general election were to be made a public holiday.
