Vol. 220 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Safety Belts in Motor Cars.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to make it compulsory to have safety belts fitted to motor cars in view of the number of deaths and injuries arising from accidents on the roads.

As indicated in reply to a previous question by the Deputy, such a requirement would be ineffective in the absence of adequate control over the sale and fitting of belts. A provision to achieve this will be included in new legislation, the drafting of which is at an advanced stage.
