Vol. 220 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Sockets in Army Married Quarters.

29.

asked the Minister for Defence if a decision has now been taken on the proposal to provide electricity power sockets and supply in all married quarters; and, if so, when the decision will be implemented.

It has been decided to provide a power socket in each of the old type soldiers' married quarters and this work will be put in hands at an early date. In view of the number of such quarters to be catered for and the possibility that supply mains may have to be replaced or strengthened to carry the additional load in certain cases, it will probably take about three years to have the entire project completed.

Instead of wasting money on duplication of elections, would the Minister enable soldiers' wives to have an electricity power socket to iron clothes, to cook and to do all the other domestic duties that must be done?

The Deputy is wired up to-day.

Three years is only 1969. If you are in office at that time, God help you if you have not done all this. There will be sparks.
