Vol. 220 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of County Cork Creamery.

39.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware of the hardship caused to farmers in the Donoughmore district of County Cork due to the closing of Kilcolman Dairy Disposal Creamery; and if he is prepared to take steps to have it reopened.

The Dairy Disposal Company found it necessary to close Kilcolman cream-separating station as this very old building was in a bad state structurally and rebuilding could not be justified economically. Before doing so, the company considered fully the interests of the milk suppliers concerned and satisfied itself that having regard to the availability of alternative creamery facilities in the area, no serious hardship would result. The creamery gave adequate notice to all suppliers and explained the reasons for closing the station.
