Vol. 220 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - District Court Jurisdiction.

44.

asked the Minister for Justice when a decision will be made (1) as to whether or not the judicial power of the District Court will be increased to enable it to deal with cases involving larger sums of money, and (2) to allow the imposition in criminal cases of heavier fines and penalties.

In regard to the first part of the question the position is still as indicated by me in reply to Parliamentary Questions on 21st October, 1965, namely, that I am awaiting a report on the matter by the Committee on Court Practice and Procedure. In regard to the second part of the question I am not in a position to add anything to what I said on the subject in reply to a question on 25th January, 1966.
