asked the Minister for Finance the rate of customs duty on glassware since 1960.

The answer is in the form of a tabular statement and I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

NOTES.

1. The Tariff based on the Brussels Nomenclature was introduced on 1st January, 1963.

2. In addition to ordinary customs duty, Special Import Levy at the rate of 15% (Full) or 10% (Preferential—U.K. and Canada) was imposed on goods of Headings 70.13 (A) (1), 70.13 (A) (2) and 70.13 (C) with effect on and from 2nd November, 1965. [Imposition of Duties (No. 146) (Special Import Levy) Order, 1965.]

3. A General Licence authorising the importation of goods manufactured in Northern Ireland free of Special Import Levy was issued by the Minister for Industry and Commerce with effect on and from 26th November, 1965.
