Vol. 220 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Elections.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government the month this year in which the local elections will be held.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to state the exact date of the forthcoming local authority elections.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 20 and 21 together.

I am not yet in a position to say when the local elections will be held this year.

Is it certain that they will be held this year?

Some time this year. I would expect some time after the summer.

When will the Minister be in a position to announce a date?

At a Fianna Fáil meeting tomorrow.

In sufficient time to enable everybody to have a right go.

Last week the Minister said that he would tell the House this week.

I did not.

The Minister did. It is on record that he said he would.

Mr. O'Malley

This is only Tuesday.

A winter campaign has its value.

Will the Minister indicate why it cannot be held in conjunction with the Presidential election?

You have too much money to play about with nowadays.
