With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together.
The question of improving landing facilities at Clare Island and Roonagh was raised in June 1962 by the interdepartmental committee on island problems set up by my predecessor. Expenditure from State funds on these projects was subsequently approved in principle by the Government, the final decision, however, to await completion by the Office of Public Works of plans and firm estimates of cost. On the basis of this additional information, the Central Development Committee, which now advises the Government on island problems, agreed in July, 1965 that the expenditure involved in the provision of landing facilities at Clare Island and Roonagh was warranted. In view, however, of the present capital position it has not yet been found possible to make a financial allocation for these works.
