asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he has received a request from the Foynes Harbour Trustees to extend the jurisdiction of their limits on the Shannon; if he has received objections from the Limerick Harbour Commissioners who are the controlling body for the Shannon Estuary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foynes Harbour Trustees.
I have received an application from the Foynes Harbour Trustees to extend the limits of their jurisdiction and am aware that the Limerick Harbour Commissioners are opposed to the application. I am in communication with the Foynes Harbour Trustees but am not yet in a position to make a statement in the matter.
Could the Minister tell us when he will be in a position to make a statement on the matter which is giving great concern to the people of Limerick?
As the Deputy knows, there is nothing that need at the moment be a cause of anxiety to the Limerick Harbour Commissioners. They have made a proposal for a three-way split of the revenues to be derived, and I am in consultation with Foynes Harbour Trustees now to ascertain what their final views are in the matter. I do not think the Deputy has any reason for alarm at all.
