Vol. 221 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FCA Annual Training.

23.

asked the Minister for Defence if in view of the fact that this year is jubilee year of the Easter Rising, that the FCA Volunteers this year will spend much of their time training for the Easter parades, guards of honour and other jubilee year ceremonies, and that some members of the FCA have now stated that they are prepared to do the second week's training without pay, he will alter his previous decision and agree to the two weeks' annual camp training.

I do not propose to alter the decision that the period of annual training for members of the FCA in the present year will be seven days.

Is the Minister not interested, or has he any respect or regard for the morale of the FCA in the future despite the excellent service they gave in the past? Does the Minister not agree it is a retrograde action on the part of the Government to allow the Fianna Fáil economic axe fall on the FCA in this year, the 50th Anniversary of 1916, despite the fact that £100,000 is to be spent on two elections?

I am interested in the FCA and always was.

Certainly you are not showing it at the present time. There is no respect for voluntary actions.
