Vol. 221 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Skerries Harbour.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance what is the present position in relation to the extension and improvement of the harbour at Skerries, County Dublin.

25.

asked the Minister for Finance what was the result of the recent survey carried out on Skerries Harbour, County Dublin; and when it is proposed that future work will commence.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 24 and 25 together.

A boring survey at Skerries harbour, County Dublin, has recently been carried out for the Commissioners of Public Works under contract, and it is expected that the contractors will report on the results of the survey by the end of this month. In the light of the results an engineering report and estimate of cost of an improvement scheme will be prepared by the Commissioners and sent for consideration by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Preparation of the engineering report should be completed about two months after the receipt of the survey report.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say when there is a possibility of a start on this?

The report of the people who carried out the survey will be sent to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in due course within a couple of months.

Has the Parliamentary Secretary any idea when the actual improvement of the harbour will take place?

The report has to be dealt with first before we can consider the next step.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary know there have been reports on this for about ten years?

That is not the case. The process was started, I think, in February, 1965.

All I can tell you is that for the past ten years Deputy Burke has been promising the people of Skerries that this job will be done.

It will be a big loss to him when it is done.
