Vol. 221 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Milk to Pensioners.

56.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider taking steps towards making some of the increased milk production available at a reduced rate to the older and less well-off members of the community.

I do not consider that the introduction of a scheme on the lines proposed by the Deputy would be desirable. I would prefer that improvements should take the form of increases in pension rates which pensioners can spend as they wish rather than the introduction of schemes of assistance in kind.
