Vol. 221 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Retirement Pay.

65.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will rectify the position whereby NCOs and enlisted men retiring from the Army on the 90 days predischarge leave have to forfeit pay if they take up position with any of the Government services within that 90 day period.

Non-commissioned officers and privates of the Permanent Defence Force who obtain State employment while on predischarge leave are required, before taking up such employment, to terminate their leave and complete their discharge from the Permanent Defence Force.

I do not propose to make any change in this requirement which is necessary to prevent the making in such a case of a double payment from State funds in respect of the same period of time.
