asked the Taoiseach if he will give the breakdown on imports for the past five years as between those purely for consumption purposes and those for productive use; and if he will state the figures in percentages.

With your permission, Sir, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the estimated distribution of imports according to main uses in each year 1961 to 1964 and in the first nine months of 1964 and 1965. Data for the last quarter of 1965 are not yet available.

* Materials for agriculture, e.g., maize, which are processed in this country before use, have been included in "Other materials for further production". With regard to cattle imports, animals for breeding have been classified as "Producers' capital goods ready for use"; store bullocks, store heifers and calves have been classified as "Materials for further agricultural production"; and the remainder (mostly fat beasts) as "Materials for further non-agricultural production".
