Vol. 222 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - 1916 Commemorative Coin.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to the 1916 commemorative coin the number made available and what the demand has been; whether all demands will be met; what the demand has been from abroad; and whether it is proposed to continue it as part of the ordinary coin circulation.

Two million pieces of the 1916 commemorative coin were obtained of which 444,000 have been issued to the public to date. External demand has amounted to a further total of 36,000 coins. It is the intention that all demand for the coin this year will be met and further supplies will be obtained if this should be necessary. After the end of the year the coin will continue to be legal tender and any coins in stock will be issued.
