Vol. 222 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Street Traffic Regulations.

18.

andMr. Barrett asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the MacCurtain Street Business Association in Cork city and business people generally in MacCurtain Street and Bridge Street have protested strongly to Cork Corporation and the Garda authorities regarding the damaging effect of the recently imposed traffic regulations on business in these thoroughfares; and if he will consider suggesting to the proper authority that certain relaxations of the regulations, including 15 minute parking on the North side of the street, could be effected.

19.

andMr. Barrett asked the Minister for Local Government if it is a fact that further restrictions on parking in MacCurtain Street and Bridge Street, Cork are contemplated; and, if so, if having regard to the detrimental effect which such restrictions would have upon the business in these streets he will cause further consultation to be had between the responsible authorities and the business interests in these streets before introducing such restrictions.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 18 and 19 together.

I understand that the Association in question protested about the effect of the one-way street system on their business. I also understand that no further restriction on parking in the streets in question is contemplated. However, this is a matter primarily for the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána and Cork Corporation to whom I will have copies of the Deputies' questions sent.
