Vol. 222 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Local Authority Property.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government the type of property which he recommends local authorities to sell for the purposes of raising funds to finance housing.

It is presumed that the Deputy's question relates to a reference in my Department's circular letter of 22nd March, 1966, to the use of receipts from the sale of land or other property. It is normal practice for local authorities to apply such receipts to capital purposes and the reference in the circular letter merely indicated that any such receipts should be taken into consideration in assessing the amount of capital expenditure to be met from sources other than the Local Loans Fund. The question of a recommendation by me as to the type of property involved does not, therefore, arise, but the types of receipts usually involved are in respect of bulk repayment of house-purchase loans, sales of surplus lands, sales of sites for churches, schools, factories and so on.
