Vol. 222 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Speed Limit Signs.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the position relative to re-siting the thirty miles per hour speed limit signs at Ballyraine, Letterkenny, County Donegal; and if he is now in a position to sanction this matter.

Recommendations have been made to my Department in regard to the road in question by the technical committee set up to deal with speed limits in County Donegal. These recommendations will be taken into account during the general review of speed limits at present being carried out by my Department.

Would the Minister care to confirm or deny again that the recommendation was made by the joint committee last year and also that the Minister declined to sanction it last year?

That is not so.

I beg to differ from the Minister——

That is nothing new.

I am in possession of facts. I should like the Minister to state emphatically that he did not get this recommendation last year. I challenge the Minister to make that statement.

What I have said is that I did not get it and turn it down last year.

The Minister got it last year and declined to sanction it.

I did not turn it down.

Why was it necessary to put it forward again this year?

The Deputy had better ask the committee.

I am asking the Minister because he has a personal interest——

Of course I have. That is more than can be said for the Deputy.
