Vol. 222 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sheep Losses.

26.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware of the huge number of sheep lost on the Knockmealdown and Comeragh mountains following the recent snowfall; and if he intends to introduce any scheme that would help the people concerned over their difficulty.

I am aware that there have been some losses of sheep because of the snowfall referred to, but it would not be practicable to introduce a special scheme. The Agricultural Credit Corporation's Unsecured Loans Scheme is, of course, available to the farmers concerned, and I am asking the Corporation to consider any applications from the area as sympathetically as possible.
