Vol. 222 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Fertilisers.

28.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the amount of fertilisers used for the year ended 31st March 1966; and how it compares with the previous year.

As indicated in my reply to the Deputy's question of 10th February last, the fertiliser year runs from 1st July to 30th June in each year and statistics of consumption are compiled only in relation to that period.

Could the Minister say why the fertiliser year runs from the month to the month selected by him?

That is the way it has been——

Why does it not go on the calendar year?

The calendar year would not make much sense. It is the fertiliser season.

The season goes on all the time.

Does he know when it starts?
