Vol. 222 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Postal Deliveries.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the evening delivery of post has been discontinued in the Robinhood, Bluebell area of Clondalkin, County Dublin; that no improvement in postal facilities has taken place; and that these facilities are considered to be totally inadequate; and, if so, when he proposes to take action in the matter.

The answer to the first part of the question is no. Two postal deliveries a day are provided in the area in question. There have been delays in deliveries recently because of staff recruitment difficulties due to full employment conditions in the area. The vacant posts will be filled as soon as possible.

As regards the second part of the question I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question on this subject on 26th January, 1966. Since then the space available for the public in the post office has been enlarged to some extent. I am having the question of further improvement examined.

Is the Minister aware that I have been approached by residents in this area who tell me that there has been no afternoon delivery for some time past? The information he has seems to be completely contradictory.

No parcels delivery?

No second delivery.

That is not my information.
