Vol. 222 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions of Primary Teachers.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider granting pension increases to retired primary teachers, in view of the fact that these retired teachers are faced with grave difficulties owing to the rising cost of living.

Increases in pensions to retired primary schoolteachers cannot be considered apart from increases in public service pensions generally. No provision for pension increases was included in this year's Budget and it is not, therefore, possible to grant any increase in teachers' pensions.

Would it be considered in the event of a Supplementary Budget?
