Vol. 222 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Scholarship Awards.

26.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that for purposes of means assessment for secondary school scholarships in County Kerry awards for 1964 were based on income for the year ended 31st December, 1963 and awards for 1965 were based on income for the year ended 30th September, 1964; and if he will state fully the reasons for the difference in the period on which the assessment is based.

With the adoption of the 1st December preceding the date of the examination as the latest date for the receipt in the council's office of completed application forms it was necessary to alter the assessment year from that ending 31st December. The alternative year found most convenient was the year ended 30th September, and the year ending on that date has been adopted for income assessment purposes by almost all the local authorities.
