Vol. 222 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Stamps.

16.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a single woman must have 52 employment stamps for unemployment assistance, whereas a single man does not; and if he will arrange to rectify this disparity.

In order to qualify for unemployment assistance a single woman who has no dependants must have not less than 52 ordinary rate employment contributions paid in respect of her for the four contribution years preceding her application for assistance. This condition is designed to ensure that unemployment assistance should be available to single women without dependants where such women have a certain minimum record of industrial work.
