Vol. 222 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Act Regulations.

28.

asked the Minister for Health if in relation to paragraph 109 of the White Paper on Health Services (Pr. 8653) he will state the date on which regulations were made for the purposes of section 50 of the Health Act, 1953, and the general nature of the regulations.

Mr. O'Malley

The regulations referred to by the Deputy are entitled the Disabled Persons (Rehabilitation) Regulations, 1963 (S.I. No. 141 of 1963) and were made on 22nd July, 1963.

Briefly, the regulations specify the manner in which, and the extent to which, health authorities shall provide a service for the training of disabled persons for employment and their placement in employment. They also provide for the payment of training fees by health authorities to the organisations with whom they arrange for the provision of this service.

Would the Minister say if the terms of those regulations have been brought to the notice of the local authorities as well as the managers?

Mr. O'Malley

Yes, I think so. I have made inquiries and I understand that is the position. I should be very surprised if it were otherwise but I shall check on it again.
