Vol. 223 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - GPO Commemoration Platform.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a firm (name supplied) was asked if it could supply the required material to construct the platform and stand erected at the GPO for the 1916 Jubilee celebrations; and if not, why.

As stated in my reply to a previous question on this subject, the contract provided that the contractors would supply, erect and remove the structure after use and that all the materials were to remain their property. In accordance with standard practice it was the prerogative of the contractors to decide how they would procure the materials necessary for the execution of the contract and what firms, if any, they would invite to quote for them.

From inquiries which I have had made, I understand that the firm referred to by the Deputy was not amongst those invited by the contractor to quote for the materials concerned.
