Vol. 223 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the long delay in the implementation of the regional water supply scheme for (1) Castlerea-Ballintubber and (2) Ballinlough-Loughglynn, County Roscommon, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are, in fact, three regional water supply schemes involved in the Deputy's question.

Two of these—the Loughglynn scheme and the Castlerea scheme, which provides for a supply of water to the Ballintubber area, are at present being reviewed by the consulting engineers concerned.

Contract drawings for the third scheme, the Ballinlough-Cloonfad regional scheme, were received in my Department on the 15th November, 1965, and are, with additional technical data which were received on 8th instant, at present under examination.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position of the mid-Kerry water scheme in view of its importance as the main artery for several branch schemes; the date when it was started; and the total cost.

Revised contract documents for Part 1 (Contracts 1, 2 and 3) of this scheme were submitted by the local authority on 3rd instant and are at present under examination in my Department.

I am not in a position to indicate when work will commence on the scheme. The estimated cost of the entire scheme is £784,000. The estimated cost of Part 1 of the scheme is £406,700.
