Vol. 223 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Game Rights.

20.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the position, in relation to recent legislation, of farmers whose game rights should now fall to them; if they are required to make application to his Department for their game rights; or if these game rights are vested automatically in them.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to section 18 of the Land Act, 1965. The position is that if reserved shooting rights have not, in a particular case, been exercised for the specified period of 12 years, the reservation ceases and the landowner has the full rights vested in him.

To secure his documentary position, however, it is necessary for him to apply to the Land Registry. I understand that that office has recently settled a simple form of procedure.
