Vol. 223 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prosecution Statistics.

33.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of prosecutions for (a) unauthorised car parking offences, (b) dangerous driving, (c) assault, (d) robbery or attempted robbery with violence, and (e) theft, including breaking and entry, which have occurred in the four county boroughs for each of the years 1960 to 1966, indicating the number or percentage of convictions and fines or other penalties which have been imposed in each case.

The available statistics are in the form of a statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

These statistics are extracted from returns furnished in connection with the preparation of the annual report of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána which is laid on the Table of the House each year. The report relates to the year ended 30th September and, therefore, the years shown in the reply are the years ended 30th September. Furthermore, the figures are in respect of Garda areas—figures are not available for county borough areas. The statistics for the current year will not be prepared until after 30th September.

Statistics of the penalties imposed are not available.

Following is the statement:
