Vol. 223 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Milk Processing Factory.

45.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will now state, in view of announcements made some time ago regarding the setting up of a milk processing factory at Tallow, County Waterford, what positive progress has been made in the establishment of this factory.

I understand that, in its present form, the proposal for the establishment of a milk processing factory at Tallow runs counter to the draft reorganisation plans for the dairying industry, which have been circulated by the Irish Agricultural Organisation Society and are at present under consideration by the industry. Pending full consideration of those plans and a final policy determination on the manner in which the dairying industry is to be reorganised, I do not think it would be appropriate to proceed with the proposal for a factory at Tallow.
